Touring the Court

A couple of weeks ago, the attorneys from our office got a "behind the scenes" tour of the US Supreme Court. We also met with the Clerk of the Supreme Court who is a retired 2-star General and a former Army TJAG (TJAG is the title for the top attorney in whatever branch of service - short for THE Judge Advocate General). He has been the clerk for over ten years and had just a few interesting stories to tell.

The picture above is of the Justices' Dining Room located on the 2nd floor of the building. You will notice only 9 chairs at the table. While the Justices sit in order of seniority in the courtroom, they sit in the chair in which their predecessor sat in the dining room. So the Chief Justice does not necessarily sit at the head of the table in here. They also sit in the same chair everytime, whether there is one person sitting at the table or all nine. The other picture is of one of the two spiral staircases in the building.
